Second-tier Holstein Kiel blew a big surprise by stripping away Bayern Munich of the German Cup soccer champion.

Holstein beat Bayern 6-5 on penalties after the end of the original and extra time in a 2-2 draw Wednesday at the end of the second round.

Bayern Munich advanced twice through Serge Gnabry (14) and LeRoy Sané (47), and the home owners responded twice also by Finn Bartels (37) and Hawkeye Wahl (90 + 5).

The two teams resorted to the two additional halves without changing the result, so they turned to the penalty shootout that smiled at Holstein after Spain’s Marc Rocca missed Bayern’s sixth penalty shoot-out, and Bartels scored the penalty shootout for the owners of the land.
