“Health” wins two awards from the International Organization for Information Systems

The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, won two prestigious awards from the International Organization for Information Systems and Healthcare Management (HIMSS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Award Middle East2020) for the categories of innovation and achievements in health care in the field of information technology and digital health.
The victory comes within the framework of the process of reaping achievements and consolidating the country’s position in the fields of global competitiveness and its positioning at the forefront in many international reports and indicators, in fulfillment of the UAE’s vision aimed at strengthening its position among the best countries in the world in electronic and smart health care.
The Ministry of Health deserved the first place in “innovation” for the early hearing screening project for newborns, which relies on the latest global electronic technologies, in early hearing detection devices, and the development of the smart electronic unit in the electronic health file “veid”.
It also won first place for “Achievements in Health Care” for the Electronic Stroke Unit project, which aims to standardize clinical practices for stroke patients, in accordance with international standards, thus contributing to reducing treatment time, morbidity and mortality. The Ministry’s robotic pharmacy project has also reached the final list of the best innovative projects.
Dr. Yousef Al Serkal, Director General of the Emirates Corporation for Health Services, stressed the importance of winning the two awards in a global forum among the elite of international health care institutions, which strengthens the country’s position on the international health map, and reflects the competitive capabilities that characterize the health sector, in order to achieve the Ministry’s strategy to provide comprehensive health care. And integrated, innovative and sustainable ways, and the development of health information systems, in accordance with international standards, to consolidate the advanced position that the country occupies in health care technology.
He praised the outstanding performance of the work teams that achieved this global achievement, after high-level competition with the best health institutions in the Middle East, which reflects the Ministry’s keenness to make qualitative shifts in the interest of patients, using the latest standards of digital health and artificial intelligence, to enhance operational efficiency and improve patient experience .
He pointed out that “Ibrahim Obaidullah Hospital” in Ras Al Khaimah won the Diamond Award from the International Stroke Federation, as the first hospital in the country and the Arab Gulf region to receive this international award, which is an indication of the efficiency of the health system in the Emirates, and the results of its long investment in digital infrastructure. Health, and to attract medical innovations to improve health care methods.
Dr. Kalthoum Al Balushi, Director of Hospitals Administration, said that the Ministry’s winning of the two awards is a global appreciation and recognition of the efficiency of its projects in health care technology, and the distinguished management of hospitals in automating clinical processes, and following the best digital health standards.
She added that the early hearing screening project for newborns depends on the introduction of innovative technology and smart application, and is being implemented in the Ministry’s hospitals that provide obstetrics and gynecology services, after being linked with the health care technology system, “Vereid”, where early intervention contributes to the access of newborns to appropriate healthcare This improves their chances of developing their language, speech style, and communication skills, as well as creating an electronic database to track hearing impairment cases.
