Foden led City to a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham in the FA Cup after trailing with a goal until the last 10 minutes.
Guardiola said in statements, most notably his club’s website: “Fodin should be Fodin, not Kevin De Bruyne, because there is only one De Bruyne.”
De Bruyne will miss City for a period of 4 to 6 weeks due to injury.
“Phil needs to keep doing what he’s doing in terms of when we have a bad moment or when we get late,” he added.
“Fodin is in a great moment and he appears with great confidence. He is playing an effective role in front of goal,” the Spanish coach added.
“He can play as a winger and in the middle or in the front. He plays really well, has physical strength and at the right moment scores a goal.”
It is Vaudin’s ninth goal this season.
About the match, Pep said, “We know what can happen all over the world and in Europe, where smaller teams can knock out the big teams in the cup. We knew that, but I was very happy with the players’ reaction.”
“In the first few minutes, we had some chances, and if we scored some of them, the match would be settled.”
Alfie May advanced to Cheltenham in the 59th minute, but Manchester City managed to score 3 goals within 9 minutes.
Manchester City’s goals came through: Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres in the 81st, 84th and 90th minutes, respectively.
Manchester City will play in the next round against Swansea City, who beat Nottingham Forest 5-1.
No date has been set for the match, but it will be played on 8-9-10-11 February next at Swansea Stadium.
