The first Saudi female lawyer to pass the “bar exam” and be licensed by the New York State Administration in law


The Secretary-General of the Board of Directors of the Public Investment Fund “Shehana Al-Azaz” appeared at the PIF strategy meeting chaired by the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. She is the only woman who attended the meeting.

Shehana Al-Azaz is considered one of the first female lawyers in Saudi Arabia, and she is the first Saudi female lawyer to achieve success in the “bar exams”, and is licensed by the New York State Board of Directors in law. She was chosen by Forbes Middle East magazine in the list of 100 Most Powerful Businesswomen, and she was named “The Deal Maker” in 2016.

Sheehana trained in New York at well-known law firms, and was one of the first offices in which BakerElkins worked, and helped establish the Riyadh branch.

Sheehanna is currently leading commercial transactions at the Legal Department at the Saudi Investment Fund. She participated in many conferences and seminars aimed at motivating and supporting young people, including the annual conference of international affairs at the American University of Colorado, and she also delivered the keynote speech at the first German-Middle Eastern conference for young professionals in Berlin.

She was recently hosted by the Global Affairs Council at the College of Law at Western New England University, USA, to talk about her experience in a symposium entitled “A Saudi in the Office of the Zawia”. She has also given lectures at several American universities, including Harvard University in Boston.
