The Lebanese artist Rami Ayyash was keen to clarify his statements regarding the legislation of a law criminalizing the marriage of minors, that is, those under the age of 18.
The statements that Ayyash made, during his meeting with the “Jafar Talk” program on the Arabic “Deutsche Welle dw” channel, sparked widespread controversy, and exposed him to harsh criticism that reached the point of curse by the public.
For his part, Rami wrote a lengthy post on Instagram, stating: “In the context of the last episode in which I was a guest on the Jafar Talk program, a debate was raised about a number of topics, followed by a campaign of responses and counter-responses, and after I reviewed a number of friends and girlfriends Activists and activists in the Ayyash Al-Childah Association and in other friendly associations, and I read their comments that considered what you said detracts from a long struggle to achieve better conditions for marriage.
He continued: “Especially for women who suffer from the injustice of society at present and from the injustice of some unfair laws at times. I reconsidered what I said and re-approached this issue, which was understood unfairly. the legal age”.
He added: “But I am not in favor of criminalization because in many cases and societies this is unfortunately a reality, and considering it a crime will be a tool from which girls may be affected indirectly, and on this there are many examples of many places in the world that allow these exceptions, and this is what I meant about me. Against criminalization, and the difference here is clear between anti-criminalization and discouragement. ”
He added, “I am not in the process of talking about what we are doing in the Ayyash Childhood Association in terms of our insistence on educating children and spreading awareness so that the younger generation can face their future consciously and responsibly so that the desired progress can be achieved in this topic, which is surrounded by many circumstances in every country and every society.”
He explained, “In the personal choice of my daughter and the daughters of her generation, I wish everyone the ability to make a free and conscious choice in better conditions and days, and under laws that protect them and conditions that help families and society. The priority remains for science through which only societies develop.”
He concluded his speech by saying: “On those who were hurt and considered that what I said hurts a long struggle, for you but from me all love and seek my excuse. It expresses the lack of morals of those who divorce it, God forgives and helps. Difference in viewpoints is a right that does not spoil in friendliness is an issue. I am always ready for dialogue and debate.
