Afghan Foreign Minister: We asked Saudi Arabia to play a role in supporting the peace process


Afghan Foreign Minister Muhammad Hanif Atmar said that during his meeting with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, he asked Saudi Arabia to participate with its weight to play a role that enables his country to achieve the peace process and stop the shooting, stressing the importance of Riyadh’s role in pushing the peace process in his country.

During an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Minister Tamer stressed the commitment of his government to its duties towards the Taliban, calling on the latter to abide by what it owes to prove goodwill.

Kabul looks towards the new US administration with optimism that emerged from the speech of its foreign minister, as he made clear that “the security file that the two countries share is important to support international stability.” He said, “We are very much looking forward to constructive engagement with America,” adding that “the statements of senior officials from the new administration were encouraging for us.”

Tamer stressed that Kabul does not want to become part of regional conflicts, and mentioned that his country sees great weight in the role that the Muslim World League plays in supporting stability in his country.
