A shocking study revealed that about a third of patients have a virus Corona Covid-19 recovered people return to hospital within 5 months, and 1 out of every 8 of those recovered dies due to the repercussions of the disease.
Researchers from the University of Leicester and the Office for National Statistics found that of 47,780 people discharged in the first wave, 29.4% returned to hospital within 140 days and 12.3% died.
According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, this is due to the long-term devastating effects of the Corona virus, as it can lead, with many survivors, to heart problems, diabetes, and chronic conditions of the liver and kidneys.
“This is the largest study of people discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid-19,” said study author Kamlesh Khunti, a professor of diabetes and vascular disease in primary care at the University of Leicester.
He explained: “It seems that people are returning home, suffering from long-term effects and returning to the hospital and dying, as records show that approximately 30% have returned to the hospital, and this is a large rate and a large number of people.” However, Professor Khunti said that he was surprised by the return of patients. He was admitted to the hospital with a different diagnosis, and many of them developed other complications.
He added: “We do not know if this is due to Covid’s destruction of beta cells that make insulin, which led to type 1 diabetes, or whether it causes insulin resistance, which leads to type II diabetes, but there are many new diabetes cases among Corona recoverers ”.
