The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, said, Tuesday, that “federalism or partition is a totally unthinkable solution, calling for the necessity to apply extensive administrative decentralization.”

During his reception of students from the Jesuit University, Patriarch Al-Rahi refused to let Lebanon be a bargaining chip in front of any regional or international solution, calling for the formation of the government without any conditions, and declared that “our problem in Lebanon is that we violate the constitution and the charter in every case.” Federalism or partition is a totally unthinkable solution, calling for the need to apply extensive administrative decentralization.

The Maronite Patriarch rejected calls for the president of the republic to resign, adding that “the president is not treated in this way, but in accordance with constitutional principles.” He believed that “the principle of active neutrality is part of Lebanon’s nature, and returning to it is the return of Lebanon to its true identity.”
