The British-Swedish pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca, announced that it had discovered a method that would significantly increase the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Corona virus, which it developed in cooperation with the University of Oxford.
“We believe that we have developed a successful formula to increase the effectiveness of (the vaccine) after giving two doses of it, which allows reaching the level of other vaccines,” said AstraZeneca CEO, Pascal Soriot, in an interview with the Sunday Times newspaper on Sunday.
Soriot said that he could not reveal this formula now, adding that the company would publish it later.
This came after the exposure of “AstraZeneca” to a wave of criticism after receiving mixed results of clinical tests.
According to these data, the effectiveness of the vaccine reaches 90% when a person is vaccinated with half a dose and then with a full dose after at least a month.
But when a person received two full doses of the vaccine in the same time period, its effectiveness decreased to only 62%.
In general, the effectiveness of the vaccine based on the test results was estimated at 70%, compared to 95% for the vaccine developed by the American “Pfizer” and “Biontech” German companies, 94.5% for the vaccine from the American company “Moderna” and 91.4% for “Sputnik” V “, the first vaccine against the coronavirus in the world.
The British government had signed an agreement to buy 100 million doses of the “AstraZeneca” vaccine, amid press reports that it would be officially approved in the United Kingdom next week.
