Atlanta, USA (CNN) – China’s “Chang’e-5” spacecraft has smoothly landed on the moon on Tuesday, the China National Space Agency said.

This is the third time that a Chinese probe has successfully landed on the moon’s surface, according to the official Chinese agency Xinhua.

The probe, which has no people on board, was launched on November 24 and will stay for two days on the moon to collect samples of dirt and rocks, according to Xinhua.

If the probe succeeds in its mission, China will be the third country to collect samples from the moon, after America and the Soviet Union, many years ago.
