230 million years old … the remains of the “godfather” of the dinosaur “T-Rex” discovered

Discoveries of creatures that lived millions of years ago are still continuing, the latest of which is the discovery by scientists of the remains of the oldest relative of the dinosaur “Tyrannosaurus Rex”, which walked on Earth 230 million years ago, in Brazil.

This prehistoric beast was called “Erythrovenator”, meaning the red hunter, and was six and a half feet long and had sharp teeth, claws and whiskers, and was the most primitive of its kind ever discovered.

“It is one of the first theropods,” said paleontologist Dr. Rodrigo Muller of the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil. It is a lineage of fearsome and carnivorous dinosaurs, like Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor. But erythrophenitor was about 150 million years ago. It is from the dawn of the age of dinosaurs. ”

The discovery sheds new light on the evolution of the most feared predator ever, since fossils of stepipeds from the late Triassic period are extremely rare.

Dr Mueller said: “Although this animal was small, it was a predator at the top of the pyramid. He was a fast and vicious Huntress, with strong muscles in the legs. The animal had sharp, blade-like teeth, like other early theropods. We believe that her skin has feather-like structures. ”

An analysis of the bones showed that the erythrofenitor was a miniature T-Rex. It also shares traits with velociraptor and spinosaurus.

“You could say he’s the godfather of T-Rex,” Dr. Muller added sarcastically.

The T-Rex weighed 8 tons and was nearly 40 feet long, the size of a school bus.

The scattered remains, including the thigh bone, which is the longest and strongest in the body, were excavated at a farm in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The dinosaur bears the full name “Erythrovenator jacuiensis”, meaning “the red hunter of Jacqui,” and the name was inspired by the color of the fossil and the name of a nearby river.

“We discovered this site through satellite imagery in 2014, and layers of rock were exposed in the vicinity of the lake,” said Dr.

Since then, scientists have led many expeditions there. They found that the sediment layer contains a treasure trove of unique fossils represented in a cemetery of animals from the distant past that was not known before, according to the “Daily Mail”.
