According to TYC and ESPN, Maradona’s body arrived in Casa Rosada around 5 am local time after holding a special night ceremony in the presence of his family and friends.
Some citizens managed to attend between six in the morning and four in the afternoon, but most of them arrived at Plaza de Mayo, in front of Casa Rosada hours earlier, where they chanted loudly hymns in tribute to the Argentine legend who died on Wednesday at the age of 60.
About 30 minutes before the doors were opened again, large numbers of people gathered, amid tight security measures.
Small problems were reported in the Plaza de Mayo as police tried to calm the crowd.
Small groups of 20 people were allowed to enter the government headquarters to see the dead, and some threw bouquets of flowers, T-shirts and some small gifts at the coffin of the deceased.
