Tokyo – (AFP):
In an event that has been expected for months, Microsoft will launch its new Xbox Series video game device on Tuesday, two days before the launch of Sony, the competing device, PlayStation 5, to launch a new generation of these devices.
The two devices, which are available in two versions and at different prices, compete, especially for the hearts and pockets of the players during the year-end holiday season, which is a very important period for this sector.
“Microsoft” is offering the “Xbox Series X” of the “Premium” model at a price of $ 499, and the smaller model, “Xbox Series S” with the lowest technical specifications, without a CD reader and in a smaller size and a minimum price of $ 299.
And sales of the “Xbox One”, the previous model from “Microsoft”, achieved levels equivalent to those recorded by its Japanese competitor with the “PlayStation 4”, after their release at the end of 2013.
However, this new page in the course of video game consoles will not be like its predecessors, as the launches will not be accompanied by any huge events like those that were held previously, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed in several countries.
“The pandemic has a major impact” on consumer behavior with “widespread adoption of e-commerce,” said Maurice Garard, analyst at Futurescore, considering that the majority of purchases will be made through home delivery orders.
Sony announced that it will not sell any of its new devices during the launch days of the PlayStation 5 (Thursday in several countries in Asia-Pacific and North America, and then on November 19 in Europe), “for the safety of players and vendors.”
“Please, avoid gathering” in front of the stores, the Japanese group said last week.
Microsoft is organizing a series of virtual events over the Internet on the occasion of the launch of its new device, starting with a reverse dimension at midnight in New Zealand, then through a global presentation of video games that will be broadcast via streaming starting from Tuesday noon in the United States (19:00 GMT) .
