Mohammed Al-Najjar, the personal translator of the late Argentine world soccer legend, Diego Maradona, has revealed the last message from the legend to Emirati fans.
The Emirates Today website quoted Al-Najjar, who accompanied Maradona during his training period with the Fujairah team in the Emirates years ago, as saying that the last phone call between him and Maradona was at the end of the last blessed month of Ramadan, and that time was in Argentina.
He added, “He advised me to convey his greetings to the people of the Emirates and to Dubai.”
And Mohammed Al-Najjar continued: “He said in text, those who love Maradona in the Emirates have reached that I need to stay for one year in Argentina, and after that I will return to Dubai, which I long for permanently, and I will stay there when I return for a long time.”
Al-Najjar confirmed that Maradona did not explain to him whether he wanted to return to Dubai as a coach or only a visitor.
He explained that Maradona sent him a special video, on which he wrote in Spanish, “To my friends in Dubai, I miss you, I will come back to you.”
Maradona, who died on Wednesday at the age of 60, had two short training experiences in the Emirates, where he supervised Al Wasl Club between 2011 and 2012, and Fujairah Club between 2017 and 2018.
