Huawei obtained a patent for this new technology on December 25 of last year, and it was announced in April of this year.

It is expected that this liquid lens technology will be integrated into the telephoto lens unit within the phone with the Sony IMX782 sensor that has not yet been announced.

The information shows that a conventional zoom lens achieves focus by adjusting the focal length between two lenses with a fixed focal length.

New liquid technology is used to focus light, Instead of moving the lenses, the camera unit changes the shape of the fluid by passing electricity through it to control the imaging.

The technical solution from Huawei enables the use of the liquid lens motor to meet performance requirements, such as: autofocus and optical image stabilization, while improving reliability compared to traditional focus motors under abnormal working conditions, such as: bumps and falls.

It is reported that this is not the first time that it has been reported that Huawei is trying to invent new camera devices. Where the company was the first to insert a periscope lens into a smartphone with the Huawei P30 Pro released in 2019.

This new technology allowed smartphone manufacturers to integrate large zoom lenses without the unit protruding from the back frame.

A periscope lens uses the mirror reflection method to adjust zoom settings before light reaches the image sensor.
