Adhanom: 70% of cases in 10 countries
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, announced that half of the cases of Coronavirus (Covid 19) occurred in 4 countries, and that 70% of the infections occurred in 10 countries.
At a press conference, Adhanom called for more emphasis on testing and diagnosis. Because it is the main and essential tool to control and isolate the outbreak of the virus before it spreads further.
He said that there are more than 50 testing and diagnostic tools, including diagnoses that an individual can make for himself at home, that have been developed in several countries and the organization is currently evaluating them, and countries can add them soon to national strategies to combat the epidemic. Adhanom called on countries of the world to prepare and establish the infrastructure to vaccinate the population.
He explained that the organization has signed a letter with the World Bank, UNICEF and regional offices to help countries prepare for the vaccination phase.
The WHO vaccination officer, Dr. Catherine O’Brien, said that 92 countries will receive support to obtain Covid 19 vaccines through the Kovacs facility for the equitable distribution of products, through development assistance.
