At a time when scientists have intensified their efforts for months to end the Corona pandemic that has caused articulate global crises, the new virus that appeared in China last December and then spread to the rest of the world is still reaping more victims.
However, a new study carried good news about how long the antibodies will remain in the body after infection with Corona, after previous fears that they will disappear in a very short period. She pointed out that immunity against the virus may last for at least six months, and may last for a longer period of up to years, according to CNN.
The study, which has yet to be scientifically reviewed, was conducted by La Jolla Institute of Immunology, University of California, San Diego and Icahn School of Medicine in New York.
In addition, the team analyzed multiple parts of the immune system’s memory, such as antibodies and lymphocytes. The study included 185 adults, aged between 19 and 81 years, who had recovered from the virus, and most of them experienced only mild symptoms.
The researchers also analyzed blood samples that were collected from different places, and some of them were collected more than six months after the appearance of Corona. And they discovered a permanent presence of antibodies, and they found immune memory B cells in all the subjects of the study, and they observed an increase in their number over time.
The team indicated that the memory of B cells towards some infections is long-lived, and may remain 60 years after the smallpox vaccination, and up to 90 years after infection with influenza.
It is noteworthy that other studies have shown that the rate of antibodies can decrease rapidly within weeks in patients with Covid-19. In a study conducted by researchers from “Kings College” in London, it was found that those recovering from Corona may lose immunity against it within months, after studying the levels of antibodies of more than 90 people with corona, and observing how they changed over time.
It is noteworthy that the new virus has so far claimed 1,352,707 lives, and infected 56,466,754 people in the world.
