Van Gundy will be named new coach for the New Orleans Pelicans


“I am very happy to be joining the New Orleans Pelicans team,” Van Gundy, 61, wrote, adding, “It is a great honor to work with our players. I look forward to talking with them and getting started.”

Van Gundy, known in the United States as a basketball voice on NBC as well as on radio and television, will replace Alvin Gentry, who was removed from his post in August.

Van Gundy coached the Miami Heat from 2003 to December 2005. In 2007 he captained the Orlando Magic before joining the Detroit Pistons as head of basketball operations and team coach until May 2018.
