Today’s technology Google is officially transferring Hangouts users to Chat next year

Google will officially transfer users from Google Hangouts to Google Chat starting next year, as part of the change, as the chat service, a messaging service previously only available to customers who pay for Google Workspace, will become a free service available within Gmail and in a separate application, Some Hangouts features will be retired before they disappear.

According to the verge, the transition from Hangouts to Chat will begin sometime in the first half of 2021, when Google introduces tools to help automatically bring Hangouts conversations, contacts and chat history into Chat.

It is not clear what steps are required for this migration, but Google says it will share the instructions at some point.

Google clarified some additional details about the change, including that it will switch from Hangouts to Chat gradually, and there will be a period of time during which the two messaging services will remain available.

But in the end, all free Workspace users and clients will be taken to the chat, and once done, the chat will replace Hangouts entirely.
