The matter was revealed by a recent study and researchers from several universities analyzing browser indicators

A recent study revealed a significant increase in Google searches for symptoms related to mental health, after the World Health Organization classified the emerging corona virus as a global pandemic in March.

Researchers from Tulane, Loyola and Central Michigan Universities used Google indicators, or “Google Trends”, to analyze “an extensive list of mental health terms” that people began searching for before and after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic.

According to “Sky News Arabia”: Researchers found that in the weeks following the announcement of the World Health Organization, there was “a big jump in searches related to anxiety and panic attacks, treatment of panic attacks, and self-care techniques,” according to the American “New York Post” newspaper.

It is surprising that the research team did not find an increase in the searches related to depression, loneliness, abuse and suicide, after the large-scale outbreak of Corona around the world.

According to the study’s lead author and associate professor of psychology at Tulane University, Michael Hurger: The results of the study, recently published in the journal Psychological Trauma, indicate that over time and under the pandemic, we will see a decline in “community mental health”.

And Horger indicated that the decline in the mental health of society may be in the form of an increase in depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, along with an increase in violence and suicide.

The researcher pointed out that nearly nine individuals are affected by every person who dies from infection with Corona, which makes them bear feelings of sadness for a long time.

The researchers concluded in their study that their findings “indicate that Americans are already experiencing significant increases in anxiety symptoms and have a desire to access common anxiety treatments remotely.”

They emphasized that the continuous monitoring of Google indicators may reveal changes in other mental health symptoms in the long term, which have not yet been discovered, which will reduce the psychological losses resulting from the spread of the Corona virus.
