The Malawian-born defender joined the team in 2016, but was fired and his contract terminated earlier this year.
“The Manchester City family is sad after learning of the death of former Academy player Jeremy Weston,” the English club said through its official account on the “Twitter” site for social networking.
He added, “We send our deepest condolences and sympathy to his family and friends. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.”
Ex-Westin teammate Cole Palmer offered his condolences by posting photos and videos on the Instagram photo-sharing platform, commenting: “We’ll miss you forever, soar high in bliss, brother.”
The cause of death was not disclosed, but British media reports indicate tragic circumstances related to the death of the young player.
