In furtherance of the existing strategic partnership between the two sides, His Excellency Salah Salem Al Mahmoud, Director General of the Sharjah Documentation and Archives Authority, received a delegation from the National Archives headed by His Excellency Dr. Administrative Development, and Hamad Al-Mutairi, Director of the Archives Department.
The visit aims to familiarize the delegation with the authority’s work system, the services and projects it provides concerned with organizing government documents and the historical archive of the Emirate of Sharjah, and the mechanisms for preserving it for future generations to ensure its preservation and protection.
The meeting began with a welcoming speech, through which Al-Mahmoud thanked the visiting delegation, expressing his pride in the National Archives, which has a pioneering and extended journey over more than 50 years, during which it worked to preserve and preserve the history of the UAE, build a rich national memory, and provide the highest levels of professionalism and institutional excellence Which made him today occupy a distinguished position in the international archives.
Al-Mahmoud praised the efforts of the National Archives to promote the principle of complementarity of roles among government institutions, stressing the Commission’s constant keenness to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two parties by harnessing all efforts and capabilities that will add to the path of this partnership many achievements at various levels.
Dr. Al-Raisi expressed his pride in the authority’s great achievements and its tremendous efforts in the field of documents and archives, presenting through it a unique experience and a distinct model for all emirates of the country that seeks to establish a specialized body to manage its documents and archives.
Al-Raisi also valued the strategic partnership between the National Archives and Sharjah Documentation, stressing that they are working to achieve a common goal entitled “Preserving the nation’s memory.”
He stressed his aspiration to establish future joint projects between the two parties, including hosting the Congress of the International Council of Archives in Abu Dhabi 2021, within the framework of strengthening work in a team spirit.
Hessa Bourguiba started the presentation in which she learned about the authority by reviewing its strategic plan, its most important partners, its most prominent memberships, and the memoranda of understanding it entered into with various competent authorities locally, regionally and internationally.
Then Asma Nasser, Director of the Records and Archives Department, touched on the department’s services represented in organizing document and archive management in paper and electronic form, document secretariat, consultations and specialized training courses, and documentation and destruction services.
In turn, Amna Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Studies and Knowledge Services Department, reviewed the Department’s services concerned with publishing historical studies and research, providing technical advice, library services, in addition to oral history service.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of future plans and visions to make the joint work based on preserving the nation’s historical legacy to serve future generations.
