San Marino celebrates its first point after 40 losing streak

The San Marino national team celebrated its first point in 6 years and cut a series of 40 consecutive defeats, following a negative draw with Liechtenstein on Tuesday evening in the European Nations Football League.

The San Marino Football Association stated on its website: “San Marino returned to achieve a positive result in European competitions after a little less than 6 years, after its last positive result.”

He added that the national team managed to avoid defeat away from home for the first time in nearly 20 years.

The San Marino national team drew 1-1 with Latvia two decades ago, and the last draw for San Marino was at home in November 2014, when it tied in a goalless way with Estonia.

The joy of the result may be diminished by the fact that the San Marino national team failed to grab a rare chance to win.

The European Football Association (UEFA) stated that the San Marino team beat Liechtenstein 17-6 in terms of shots, Filippo Berardi almost played a heroic role and decided the match, but Liechtenstein goalkeeper Benjamin Bochell saved the ball brilliantly.

The San Marino national team ranks last in Group Two in the final fourth division of the Nations League.

The San Marino national team played its first official match in 1990, and it achieved one victory in its history, which was at home against Liechtenstein 1-0 in a friendly match that was held in April 2004, and the team achieved one victory in its history for 161 defeats and 5 draws.

San Marino will play its next match in the European Championship on November 14 against Gibraltar.
