NVIDIA builds supercomputer in Britain to boost Corona research

She said a company The giant American chips Nvidia on Monday: It plans to build the most powerful supercomputer in Britain, which will use artificial intelligence to help researchers solve urgent medical challenges, including those related to the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) COVID-19.

Nvidia said: GSK and AstraZeneca, which are participating in coronavirus vaccine research, will be among the first pharmaceutical companies to exploit the power of the device.

The company added that the Cambridge-1 supercomputer, which is expected to run online by the end of this year in Cambridge, eastern England, will be the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD system capable of delivering more than 400 petaflops of artificial intelligence performance. She said: This means that it will be ranked 29th on the list of the 500 best supercomputers in the world.

Cambridge is also the home of ARM – the British chip designer that Nvidia agreed to buy from Japan’s SoftBank for $ 40 billion.

Nvidia previously said: It plans to establish a center of excellence for artificial intelligence in the university city, to contain a supercomputer based on ARM, which will be a collaboration center for researchers, scientists and startups across the UK. The Cambridge-1 discrete supercomputer will be offered to researchers from industry and academia.

“The Cambridge-1 supercomputer will serve as an innovation hub in the UK, and underpin the pioneering work of the country’s researchers in critical healthcare and drug discovery,” said Jensen Huang – NVIDIA founder and CEO.

On Monday, Nvidia also laid out a multi-year plan to create a new type of chip for data centers, with the goal of pulling more tasks from its main competitor Intel.

Intervals Nvidia in a press briefing: The limited-feature models will debut within months, while full versions are planned within two years. She added that server companies, such as Dell and Lenovo, plan to integrate them into their devices.

It is noteworthy that Nvidia chips have long been used to improve video game graphics, but in recent years they have helped speed up tasks of artificial intelligence, such as: image recognition. Typically, chips are placed next to the Intel core processor, which can free up some computing work.
