Governmental decree

A source from the local government of the Madrid region in Spain said on Friday that the city authorities will publish in the coming hours a decree imposing partial isolation measures in the capital and nine neighboring towns as part of measures to combat the Corona virus.

When the local government led by conservatives publishes the decree, it will reluctantly obey the order of the central government led by Socialists to ban unnecessary travel in the Spanish capital after a sharp increase in the number of cases of Covid-19

The President of the Madrid region, Isabel Diath Ayusu, is due to file a lawsuit with the country’s courts demanding the lifting of the restrictions as it fears its impact on the economy.

The worst outbreak of Coronavirus in Europe

The World Health Organization says that the disease incidence rate in the Madrid region is 859 cases per 100,000 population, and thus it is witnessing the worst outbreak of Covid-19 in Europe. The central government decided to intervene after a bitter dispute with the local authorities.

The quarantine will include Madrid and nine neighboring municipalities, during which the borders will be closed to those coming from outside the region for any unnecessary visits, and travel will be allowed only for the sake of work, study, treatment and shopping. The ban on the work of bars and restaurants will begin at eleven in the evening instead of one in the morning.
