Economist / Saudi Council of Engineers participates in the works of the Fifth Arab Conference on FIDIC Decades and the Saudi Press Agency

The Saudi Council of Engineers participated in the Fifth Arab Conference on FIDIC Contracts under the slogan: “Government Contracts and FIDIC Contracts” organized by the International Academy for Mediation and Arbitration.
In his speech at the opening session of the conference, the Secretary of the Commission, Engineer Farhan bin Habaiter Al-Shammari, explained that the participation comes within the framework of spreading the culture of engineering arbitration, building distinctive arbitration competencies and expanding cooperation with engineering arbitration centers, indicating that the FIDIC contracts that are the focus of the conference work are widely accepted and should be used. In government contracts, indicating that the Kingdom allows resort to arbitration after approval.
He emphasized that the Engineering Arbitration Center of the Saudi Council of Engineers is one of the bodies that provide services and expertise in this field, and it also achieves justice in resolving engineering disputes through arbitration and alternative means of judiciary, and that the center looks forward to being the main reference for resolving engineering disputes at the local and global level.
The virtual conference was opened – remotely – with the participation of the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Contractors, Eng. Hamdi Shehata, the Vice President of the Arab Commission for Engineering Arbitration, Engineer Muhammad Saeed Fatha, and the Secretary General of the Conference, Lawyer Walid Othman.
It is worth noting that the conference was held on the second and third of this October, and in its main session it dealt with three axes, which included “a new Saudi construction contract after waiting for 30 years” from Dr. Nabil Abbas and “a comparison between the Egyptian government contracting law 2018 and the FIDIC contract 2017” from Dr. Ahmed Wali, and “Analysis of the Most Important Models FIDIC Contracts Suitable for Government Contracting” from Dr. Walid Al-Nimr.
The conference includes four main sessions, as well as the professional referee certification for five training levels, with an average of 80 training hours through an interactive study via the Zoom app.
