The mayor of central Dammam, Eng. Abdullah bin Sanad Al-Shammari, indicated that the municipality has started using the smart container as a prototype, where two types of smart and hidden containers will be used.

He said: Smart containers are powered by solar energy and come with a capacity of 1700 liters. They are equipped with two solar panels that support shipping, and gates that open automatically by photoelectric sensors and close automatically after 10 seconds.

He added: The container is designed to operate with a charging capacity of 30 days in the absence of exposure to the sun, and the solar panels provide the energy needed to operate the compressor. This allows these containers the ability to compress waste eight times to reduce its volume.

And Al-Shammari added: The municipality of central Dammam has an ambitious future plan aimed at distributing smart containers on a large scale in the city, to include important streets and major areas during the coming period.

He continued: hidden containers are hydraulic containers that contribute to preserving public health, reducing environmental pollution and eliminating odors from traditional containers. It is hidden underground and suitable for the general view.
