An American scientist questioned the results of a study conducted by the US Department of Defense, in which it confirmed that the risk of transmission of the Corona virus on board aircraft is “almost non-existent”, saying that it relied on “inaccurate calculations” to convince the world of aviation safety.

According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the American scientist David Friedman, who specializes in infectious diseases, indicated that he was very upset after the study researchers cited previously conducted research showing that the ventilation systems in aircraft efficiently filter the air and remove particles that can be To transmit viruses, indicating that his words do not deny the possibility of infection with the virus on board aircraft.

He continued: “The hypothesis of the recent study that the possibility of infection with Corona on board aircraft is based on poor and inaccurate calculations, which came as a result of the aviation sector’s desire to resume air travel, even with the start of the second wave of Corona in many countries.

The US Department of Defense study examined the impact of a passenger with “Covid-19” on others sitting near him in the cabins of the Boeing 767 and 777 aircraft. Using aerosol tracking devices to see where particles emitted from a passenger’s cough go, the team concluded that they were rapidly absorbed into the ventilation system.

The researchers claimed that the rate of infection on aircraft does not exceed 0.003 per cent, confirming that they examined the data of 1.2 billion travelers in 2020, of whom 440 people were infected with the virus, which means that out of 27 billion passengers, only one person can be infected.

According to Friedman, the study did not take into account other ways in which people could contract the virus in airplanes, including contaminated surfaces, bathrooms, and the cough of someone close.

He added: “The study team’s calculations were poor and inaccurate, and it could be that the number of those infected with the infection was much greater than the 440 people who admitted this. Researchers did not test almost anyone, so how did they know how many people were actually infected? There are people who refuse to disclose their infection with the virus, and prefer to keep it a secret.

Friedman also pointed out that the study also relied on all people wearing masks «N95», while the vast majority of people wear masks made of fabrics.

This comes at a time when people are less afraid of boarding planes, in contrast to the beginning of the outbreak. The US Transportation Security Administration indicated that it screened more than a million passengers last Sunday, the largest number since March 16.
