317 experts discuss the impact of Coronavirus on the reality of the publishing industry – thought and art – East and West


The Sharjah Book Authority announced the launch of the tenth edition of the Publishers Conference at the Sharjah Expo Center from 1 to 3 November, prior to the start of the 39th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair on November 4. The conference, which will be held over a period of three days, includes eight discussion sessions in which the participants discuss the most prominent issues and challenges facing the publishing industry in the region and the world.

The activities of the opening day begin with a speech by Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, with the presence and participation of 317 publishers and 33 speakers and specialists in the publishing industry from all over the world.

First day

The conference begins the program of its activities with a dialogue session entitled “A look at the reality of the publishing industry in the world: growth in light of the Corona crisis”, in which an elite group of experts and workers in the publishing sector from all over the world will participate. The future, and the role of virtual events and social media in enhancing communication between publishers and readers in the world.

The last discussion session will be on the first day, titled “Searching for a New Audience for Translated Books”, followed by a session on the mechanism of participation in the translation grant that the Sharjah International Book Fair allocates to the conference participants, amounting to 300 thousand US dollars.

The activities of the second day of the conference will start with a session entitled “Emirati Writers Dialogue”, in which writers representing the Emirate of Sharjah will participate, followed by a session entitled “The World of Women: Global Pioneers in the Publishing Sector” focusing on the impact that publishers have had on the book industry, while the third session deals with Entitled «Home Education and Virtual Education:

The activities of the third day include two sessions, the first entitled “Book piracy: What are its harms?”, In which publishers and legal experts discuss ways to combat book piracy, while the second session, titled “The Phonics Phenomenon: Growth and Listening Habits,” focuses on the growth of audio book platforms. Its spread around the world is in addition to the listening habits of individuals.
