Three signs of Corona attacking the brain

And data from the COVID Symptom Study app shows that patients infected with the Coronavirus often have conditions that can be a warning sign of the impact of the new Corona virus on the mind.

These telltale signs that SARS-CoV-2 has already attacked the brain can be summed up as follows:

– Rave

A state of acute confusion

Headache

The mechanisms that cause these brain problems are still largely unknown, but the new study, published in the journal bioRxiv, before it was peer-reviewed, offers some explanations.

The new study provides the first clear evidence that the coronavirus in some people invades brain cells and hijacks them to make copies of itself. The virus appears to absorb all of the nearby oxygen, starving neighboring cells to death.

It is unclear how the virus reaches the brain or how often it unleashes this path of destruction. Brain injury is likely to be rare, but some people may be susceptible to it due to their genetic backgrounds, high viral load, or other reasons.

The results show that SARS-CoV-2 can infect brain cells that call neurons directly, according to the study’s lead author, Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale University.

The study indicated that scientists are still trying to piece together how the virus entered the brain in the first place, and whether it could be kept away from the brain.

The study authors examined brain tissue that was dissected for three samples, the first from a patient who died of “Covid-19”, the second from a mouse infected with “Covid-19”, and the third sample included organelles, groups of cells grown in a laboratory dish to mimic the three-dimensional structure of brain tissue.

Dr. Maria Nagel, professor of neurology and ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, who was not involved in the study, said.

In organelles, the team found that the virus can enter nerve cells through the ACE2 receptor, which is a cell-surface protein that the virus uses to enter the cell and trigger infection.

Then they used an electron microscope, which uses beams of charged particles to illuminate tissues, to look inside the affected cells.

And they were able to see Corona virus particles “bud” inside the cell, which indicates that the virus has hijacked the internal mechanism of nerve cells to build new copies of itself.
