Amidst anticipation of the first film festival to be held in the region virtually after the Corona pandemic, the activities of the sixth session of the Saudi Film Festival on the Internet were launched (Tuesday), in a live broadcast on the official channel of the festival on YouTube, and organized by the King Abdulaziz Center for International Culture (Ithra), In partnership with the Culture and Arts Association in Dammam, and with the support of the Film Authority of the Ministry of Culture, and it will continue until next Sunday. The director of the festival, Ahmed Al-Mulla, said in his opening speech of the festival: “We created interactive solutions that respond to our aspirations in a (transient) circumstance like this. Here, in managing the festival, we can only confirm that the response and support of Saudi filmmakers was the solid stone on which this session was built. The festival witnessed unprecedented interaction from observers of the festival’s activities on YouTube. The films of the first group, which included 5 feature films and a documentary, were shown by their directors with an unprecedented experience. The sixth edition of the Saudi Film Festival devoted two hours to the screening of films, followed by the festival’s studio, run by Abdul Majeed Al-Kinani, and hosted by director Mohamed Al-Hammadi, Husam Al-Sayed, and Ali Dawas. Filmmakers described the festival’s experience as a strange, beautiful and unprecedented event by following viewers’ comments on the works directly and their criticism of them, which is what happens for the first time in Arab festivals, before the vote on the evaluation of the films opens for viewers.
The festival has represented an unprecedented move for movie lovers, who for the first time will be able to watch all the films that will be shown at the festival for free, unlike what was the case in previous festivals, with the ability to watch them in two different screening times.
