The movie “The Man Who Sold His Back” goes to Egypt .. A Syrian dreamed of traveling to meet the girl of his dreams, but he lost his freedom

After screening at the Venice Film Festival currently held in Italy, the film “The Man Who Sold His Back” by Tunisian director Kawthar Ben Haneya will travel to Egypt next month to participate in the new edition of the El Gouna Film Festival.

The film is 104 minutes long and starring Yahya Mahaini and Diya Layan, with the participation of Italian Monica Bellucci in her first appearance in Arab cinema. It is a Tunisian, French, German, Belgian and Swedish joint production.

The film deals with the story of a Syrian immigrant who left his country to escape the war to Lebanon hoping to travel from him to Europe where the girl he loved lives, and for that, he accepts that one of the most famous contemporary artists draws a tattoo for him to turn his body into a masterpiece, but then realizes that he lost his freedom from New because of the decision he made.

The film will compete in the feature films competition in the fourth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, which will be held from October 23 to 31 in the tourist resort overlooking the Red Sea.

Two years ago, while the film was in the development stage, it received a grant of $ 10,000 from the El Gouna Film Platform, which supports new Arab films in the development and post-production stages.

In a statement, Anchal Tamimi, director of the El Gouna Festival, said that the film was shown for the first time internationally in the Horizons section of the seventy-seventh session of the Venice Festival, while its first screening will be in the Middle East and North Africa region in El Gouna.

He added that screening the film at the prestigious Venice Festival “represents a success for both the film and the El Gouna Film Festival, and enhances our pride in empowering and supporting Arab filmmakers … and the role that the El Gouna platform plays in serving the Arab film industry.”
