American Serena Williams reached the second round of the US Championship, at “Flushing Meadows”, by beating her compatriot Christy Ahn 7-5, 6-3.
It took the veteran Serena (38 years) to equal the record in the number of titles in major tournaments held by Australian Margaret Court, it took an hour and 21 minutes to get rid of her citizen, ranked 96 in the world.Serena, who is aspiring to her first major title since the Australian Open in 2017, broke her compatriot’s service 4 times out of 6 attempts, and she managed to settle the important points.
And the other American Sophia Kinen reached the second, beating Belgium’s Yanina Vikmeyer 6-2, 6-2.
In the second round, Kenin met Canadian Leila Fernandez, who won over Russian veteran Vera Zvonareva (35 years) 6-4, 7-5.
Tunisian Anas Jaber also qualified by beating Polish Katarina Kava 6-2 7-6 (8-6), to set a date with Estonian Kaya Kanebi, who won over Czech Katerina Senyakova 6-1, 6-2.
