The list includes reality TV star Kim Kardashian, American actor Leonardo DiCaprio, actors Jennifer Lawrence and Sacha Baron Cohen, in response to the call of a group of organizations that were previously behind the first movement to boycott “Facebook”.
The organizations accuse the “Facebook” group of contributing to “inciting violence and spreading racism and hatred,” in addition to “disinformation related to the electoral process” in the United States, according to the Anti-Defamation League, one of the nine participating organizations.
Kardashian, one of the personalities with the largest number of followers on “Instagram” in the world, will suspend her account on “Facebook” as well.
“I would love to communicate with you directly via Instagram and Facebook,” Kim wrote in a post on her Twitter account, “but I cannot sit and remain silent while these platforms continue to allow the spread of hate, propaganda and misinformation – created by groups to sow division and divide America.”
The protest will take place, Wednesday, as part of the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, a coalition of civil rights groups that led to a month-long boycott of Facebook ads over the summer.
The coalition says it wants Facebook to take “reasonable steps to counter the spread of racism, disinformation and hatred” shared on its platform.
