ABU DHABI, September 16, / WAM – His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the Indian Premier League Cricket Championship is one of the most important sporting events on the global level, and said that Abu Dhabi is recording a new achievement by choosing it as a preferred destination to host 20 matches.
Al-Mubarak said in a statement that the UAE’s hosting of the thirteenth edition of the tournament highlights its infrastructure and excellent and safe hospitality services as it is one of the most important global sports platforms.
He pointed out that the state has affirmed its commitment to advancing innovation and excellence, especially since during the “Covid-19” pandemic, it has demonstrated its ability to successfully organize huge events such as Battlefield Island and the UFC mixed martial arts competitions that were held recently on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
His Excellency said: “Hosting the Indian Premier Cricket League contributes to the consolidation of Abu Dhabi’s global position and enhances the diversity of our cultural, entertainment and tourism offerings … Sports events constitute for us a sector full of growth opportunities.”
He added that by unleashing the country’s capabilities in terms of innovation, knowledge and infrastructure, we can accelerate the growth of the tourism sector and consolidate the emirate’s position as a major destination for hosting the most important sporting events.
He stressed that Abu Dhabi has succeeded in proving its athletic qualifications by holding major sporting events, including the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, the Emirates Tour, the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the Asian Football Cup, and the Club World Cup, And the Volvo Ocean Race, and many other events that have – and are still having – the opportunity to be hosted in the emirate.
It is worth noting that Abu Dhabi will host 20 matches in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier Cricket League / IPL / Dream 11 / which will be held from September 19 to November 10.
Abu Dhabi will also host the opening summit meeting between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings on September 19 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, which will host all the matches held in Abu Dhabi.
And eight teams participate in the Indian Premier League: “Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Chilling Bangalore and Sun Rise Hyderabad.”
