The largest couple in the world

A married couple living in Ecuador, whose families rejected their marriage for nearly 80 years, broke records by becoming the “oldest married couple in the world”. Last Tuesday, the Guinness Book of Records reported that Julio Moura, 110, and Dramina Quinteros, 104, who now have a total of 215, are the oldest married couples in the world.

Although there are longer marriages, the record set by the spouses, who live in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, is that they have the “longest common life of a married couple” in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

As of last Saturday, the spouses lived a total of 78,654 days, and the retired teachers had a marriage relationship for 79 years, 6 months and 22 days, according to a report by USA Today.

The couple enjoys good health, despite their disappointment, as the Corona epidemic prevents them from a big celebration that brings together their family, consisting of 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Among the achievements they are proud of: Raising five children, all with college degrees.

Spouses say that their “secret formula” in a long marriage is “love + maturity + mutual respect.”

The Guinness Book of Records quoted the couple, who knew each other for seven years before marriage on February 7, 1941, as saying: “The love and maturity that we lived as a couple since the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to determine our future.”

They added, “It was not easy because our relatives did not have a good relationship, but with time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations.”
