Kibroto (25 years) was among 11 Kenyan runners who obtained visas to participate in the race scheduled for August 14, but he was forced to withdraw after undergoing compulsory tests before participating.
The results of Kiproto were positive on Friday at a hospital in the city of Eldoret (west).
“It is unfortunate that the test result is positive, so I am not able to be part of the team,” the gold medal holder of the Rio 2016 Olympics and the London World Cup 2017 and Doha 2019 told AFP.
He continued: “It is disappointing not to participate after I trained hard throughout the quarantine period due to the pandemic.”
Kiproto said he has no symptoms and is awaiting additional instructions from his doctors.
