Paris coach Saint-Germain defended his team against criticism against him, after the team succeeded in winning all four domestic titles, as he won the French League Cup by defeating Lyon with a penalty shoot-out in the final match. After the original and extra time ended in a negative tie, Saint-Germain defeated Lyon 6-5 with a penalty shoot-out to crown the League Cup title, a week after crowning the French Cup by beating Saint-Etienne 1 – zero.
“Paris Saint-Germain celebrates its titles but lacks calm,” Le Parisien newspaper reported yesterday, adding that the team lacks a fighting spirit. Tochel blamed the media during the press conference held after the match, saying that the media is always looking for negative aspects. “There is no problem,” Tokhel added. “We won. They told me on behalf of a team that scored four or five goals per game. This is not possible. ”
Tochel praised his team after adding a title to his titles in the French Super Cup, French League and French Cup. “Four domestic goals in the season, this is the maximum here,” Tokhel said. “I am proud of my team. It includes good players, they perform collectively and enjoy working together as well as suffering together. ”
Pablo Sarabia, who played in the second half, scored the final and decisive kick after goalkeeper Keylor Navas saved Lyon’s Bertrand Traore to give Saint-Germain his ninth title in the League Cup. This is the last version of the tournament, which started in 1995. After the French Professional League in September decided to cancel the tournament from next season until further notice. The association failed to secure the tournament broadcast rights between 2020 and 2024, but it reserved the right to re-launch it in the future.
Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopez starred and succeeded in tackling many opportunities during an exciting match in front of 5,000 spectators at the Stade de France, who were allowed to enter the stadium in line with the safety measures used to face the Corona virus epidemic. Lopez responded to three attempts by the Brazilian striker Neymar, as well as saved shots from Angel de Maria and Idrissa Jay, and in return, Navas blocked Maxwell Cornet’s free kick. Lyon defender Rafael da Silva got a red card in the last minute of extra time after a foul against Di Maria and Neymar fired a free kick over the crossbar. Neymar maintained the hopes of Saint-Germain in the penalty shoot-out before Navas saved Traore’s kick, and Sarabia scored a kick quietly to put the ball in Lopez’s goal to celebrate with the teammates. Saint-Germain, which includes the Brazilian star Neymar as well as the currently injured Killian Mbappe, is preparing to resume the Champions League, where he will meet in the quarter-finals of the Atlanta team on the 12th of this month, as part of the mini-championship scheduled in Lisbon to settle the remaining Champions League matches.
