Saudi Arabia and Ukraine are discussing boosting trade, investment and exemption from visas


Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, made a phone call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuliba.

During the call, according to a statement issued by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, they reviewed bilateral relations and prospects for joint cooperation, in addition to discussing developments and issues of concern to the two countries.

For its part, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said, in a statement, that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmitro Kuliba, proposed for the first time in 11 years the resumption of political consultations via the Internet between the foreign ministries of Ukraine and the Kingdom, confirming that the Saudi Foreign Minister welcomed the proposal and agreed to start preparations for the consultations.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added that the foreign ministers of the two countries have never paid special attention to the development of trade and investment between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that his country expects a new momentum for trade and investment with Saudi Arabia, pointing to the full disclosure of the potential for trade and economic cooperation that will bring great benefits to the two countries.

The two parties emphasized the expected positive consequences of the visa exemption system for Saudi citizens when visiting Ukraine to expand commercial, cultural and personal relations between the two friendly countries, noting that Ukraine began in early August 2020 allowing citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enter its territory without a visa.

The two foreign ministers discussed possible steps to simplify entry procedures to the Kingdom for certain groups of Ukrainian citizens.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry indicated that the Saudi Foreign Minister responded positively to the invitation of the Foreign Minister of Ukraine to visit Kiev.

According to the statement, Koliba praised the invitation of the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, to visit Ukraine, stressing that the proposal will be considered after the current quarantine restrictions in relation to the Corona pandemic are lifted. .

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of Ukraine’s important partners in the Gulf region, noting that the total volume of commodity trade between the two countries in 2019 amounted to about $ 920 million (3.45 billion riyals), according to the foreign ministry’s statement.

The two parties seek to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of aviation and agro-industries.

On September 28, 2019, the Saudi government provided multiple tourist visas to citizens of 49 countries, including Ukraine, and on August 1, 2020, Ukraine introduced a visa-free system to citizens of Saudi Arabia.
