The White House has confirmed the death of Robert Trump, the younger brother of US President Donald Trump.
“He was not only my brother, he was my best friend,” the US president said in a statement on Saturday.
Donald Trump visited his brother in a New York hospital after midday on Friday, and told reporters, “He’s going through a hard time.”
And US media reports said that Robert was suffering from the brunt of the disease, but without revealing what the disease was.
The President said, “With a heavy heart, I announce that my wonderful brother Robert will leave tonight in peace. His memory will forever live in my heart.”
Eric Trump, the son of the US president, mourned his uncle, saying, “Robert Trump was an extraordinary man – strong, compassionate, and loyal to the core. He would leave a great void in the conscience of the whole family.”
Robert was the youngest of five brothers, two years younger than President Trump.
Robert spent most of his career at the family’s real estate company, until he reached the rank of CEO. Unlike his brother, Robert was not in pursuit of fame and lived in semi-retirement in New York state.
And Robert had recently gone to court in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the publication of his niece Mary Trump’s book, in which she publishes comprehensive information about the president, under the title “How did my family make the most dangerous man in the world?”
According to the New York Post, Robert spent more than a week in the intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan in June.
