Last April, a prominent Chinese analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, reported that iPhones with 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch screens will enter production in September, which means a month after the original plan stipulated that production will start in August. Now this analyst says that the lens issues of the wide angle camera may lead to a delay in the charge level of the components.
All four models will use 7P lenses in the wide-angle cameras. The problem lies with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max lenses since their coating is prone to cracking during high temperature and high humidity tests.
This issue affects components manufactured by Genius Electronic Optical, but Apple has a second supplier called Largan whose lenses have passed tests. Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will buy more units from Largan at Genius’s account, at least in the lead up to the launch.
The bad news for Genius doesn’t end there. Even if the company fixes the problem, it may have to cut its asking price by 30 percent to get a larger share of sales, which will affect its profit margins.
All of this may not affect the launch of the new iPhone 12 Series models if Largan can make up the difference. This means that this problem will not lead to more delays, as Apple has already had to delay the launch process due to various problems.
