In the Arab world, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon require travelers to undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, which can detect infection with corona, according to a report published by the site “Scope Empire“.
In Lebanon, the authorities require the presence of a negative test result for some travelers with a PCR examination of at least 96 hours, and for some travelers they are examined at the airport, and asking them to isolate themselves for up to 72 hours as a precaution.
As of mid-August, Egypt will prohibit the entry of foreigners to it without presenting negative test results for the PCR test for a period not exceeding 72 hours of travel, with the exception of those coming for tourists to some coastal cities such as Taba and Sharm El Sheikh.
As for the UAE, it stipulated the same examination, but not for all those coming to it, and some countries that are hotspots of the disease have been identified, so that the traveler must present negative examination results from the country from which he traveled from, and he will undergo another test upon arrival at the airport.
What is a PCR assay?
The “PCR” test, known as the “polymerase chain reaction” test, is one of the most common tests conducted by hospitals, to determine the strain of the virus present in the human body, and it can determine its spread and track the patient’s recovery from it.
This examination is used to detect several viruses, whether those related to influenza or even AIDS, enteroviruses, and viruses associated with the respiratory system, including (Covid-19) or the emerging corona according to World Health Organization.
The test enables detection of the virus’s DNA through a “polymerase chain reaction” so that the genome the virus carries is determined.
How is the test performed?
The examination must be carried out in certified medical laboratories and by specialists, where samples are taken from the upper respiratory tracts, the throat and the nose, in addition to trying to reach the lower respiratory tract.
The sample stick should reach a depth of medium distance between the tip of the nose and the earlobe for accurate results.
After extracting the samples, they are sent to the laboratory for processing, and the results of which need to appear between two to three hours, and can sometimes extend to six hours.
This examination is one of the expensive tests because the devices used in it are very expensive.
Corona and air traffic
Many countries around the world still prohibit travelers from entering it, while some have put green lists that allow entry to travelers from countries that are considered low-risk for the spread of the Coronavirus in them, and require those entering them to put themselves in stone in specific facilities for a period of 7 to 14 days.
Many airlines around the world were forced to suspend after the closure of many airports, as air traffic was severely affected by the repercussions of Covid-19.
The pandemic caused losses to the global tourism sector amounting to $ 320 billion in the first five months of 2020, according to the World Tourism Organization.
The number of tourists in the world decreased by 300 million between January and May, equivalent to 56 percent, at a time when the tourism sector was affected by the closure measures imposed to limit the spread of Covid-19, according to a report published by Agence France-Presse.
