Hayam Al-Qusseifi wrote in Al-Akhbar: The internal boiling that Lebanon is witnessing today is unlike any previous stages, with all the tragedies that the Lebanese have known. Neither the war with its cannons, sectarian and sectarian battles and their human puppies, nor the intermittent peace that was produced by the Taif Agreement, or the post-2005 phase.
Something from that time, despite the basic prosperity Lebanon enjoyed in terms of services and economy compared to the present, reflects a similar reality that leads to an explosion, not in the sense of military war, but in the sense of the internal collapse of power, order, and the country as a whole. All this, while the Western talk is progressively increasing, that the Lebanese regime is witnessing critical stages in the perception of its identity, after the two phases of 1975 to Taif, and from Taif to the present time. Concerning questions about the system that each party seeks at various times to present political proposals, some from the heart of Taif and the current system and some from outside it entirely, because the intensification of crises in this unprecedented manner only leads to the reproduction of solutions and compromises affecting the core of the system. Here may be backgrounds of some recent proposals that usually precede any serious approach to the identity of this system, at the due date.
In the lives of the Lebanese in the years or even the few months that preceded the April 1975 events, conditions were closer to prosperity, limited banks and fixed lira, fuel through oil pipelines, gasoline and diesel at low prices, and even offers to explore for oil in Lebanese waters, medicine and hospital, infrastructure, Roads and electricity. In form, and even in some aspects of daily life, nothing resembles Lebanon today, cinemas, symposia, galleries, theaters, turquoise in Mais Al-Reem, Sabah, Antoine Kerbaj, Chouchou and western shows. But the causes of the social explosion, and therefore the political one, were present not only from Sidon and the demonstration of fishermen, but also in the details of daily life as well. The restoration of the newspaper headlines at this stage foretells of political, popular and social tension. A boiling precedent of the assassination of Marouf Saad, the features of the government crisis, and demands for the resignation of President Rashid al-Solh against the background of correct Sunni representation, talk about the budget, on the political division and the Palestinian factor and facing the right and left, factors of popular tension, social demands, labor demonstrations, and teachers ’strike, up to the April events. Boiling, the senior politicians in Lebanon and freed them with experience could not curb it, along with active Arab states, when the Arab world was still outside religious and political confrontations, and the war exploded with all its tragedies. To read the full article Press here.
