By the end of last July’s trading, the market value of companies listed on the Muscat Securities Market approached the level of 19.4 billion Omani riyals ($ 49 billion) for the first time in the market’s history.

Last month, the Muscat Securities Market recorded gains in its market value estimated at about 968.2 million Omani riyals, to rise by the end of trading to about 19 billion and 390 million Omani riyals, compared to 18 billion and 421 million Omani riyals at the end of June.
The market value of companies listed on the Muscat Securities Market recorded successive increases over the past years. It rose from 15.7 billion Omani Rials at the end of 2015 to 17.2 Billion Omani Rials in December 2016.
It went on to rise to 17.9 billion Omani riyals at the end of 2017, then to 18.1 billion Omani riyals at the end of 2018, and to 18.7 billion Omani riyals at the end of last year.
In recent years, a number of public joint-stock companies were listed, but the decline in stock prices negatively affected the total market value.
Whereas closed companies that are not traded inside the hall and the bond and sukuk market were able to compensate for the losses in the market value of the public joint-stock companies.
The market value of the companies and issues listed in the market is divided into 3 sectors. The first is the public shareholding companies, which amounted to about 6.2 billion Omani riyals, and the second is bonds and sukuk, whose market value reached 4 billion and 165 million Omani riyals.
The third are the closed companies, whose market value reached 9 billion and 30 million Omani riyals. For the closed market to acquire 46.5% of the total market value.
Public joint-stock companies come in second place with 32%, followed by the bond and sukuk market, which accounts for about 21.5% of the total market value of companies and issues listed on the market.
