FIFA confirmed on Saturday that the president of the Football Association, Infantino, remained in office despite being accused of corruption cases.
“VIVA” said in a statement published by the agency, “Novanti” that Infantino can stay in his position and should not be forced to leave his position.
He added: “The FIFA President is undergoing a criminal investigation by the Swiss judicial authorities, but he has not been charged or declared guilty of anything. FIFA and its president will continue to cooperate fully with the judicial authorities in Switzerland until the end of these investigations.”
A criminal case in Infantino’s behavior was opened by a Swiss special prosecutor last Thursday, against the backdrop of secret meetings with the country’s public prosecutor, who is leading a sprawling investigation into soccer-related corruption.
In its statement, the Federation affirmed its conviction of the invalidity of the accusations by saying: “FIFA is convinced that at the end of the investigations it will be ensured that the President did not make any mistake in the performance of his credit duties.”
It is noteworthy that Infantino took over the presidency of the FIFA in 2016 after defeating Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa in two rounds of voting in Zurich, to replace Joseph Blatter, who was forced to resign from the World Football Board a year ago due to allegations of corruption, He was denied any position related to world football until 2021.
