The Supreme Council of Imams and Islamic Affairs in Brazil organized, in partnership with the World Council of Muslim Communities, the day before yesterday, a virtual seminar entitled “The Role of the Imam in Promoting Community Peace”, with the participation of about 100 scholars and imams from more than 12 countries in Latin America and countries. Dr. Muhammad Matar Al-Kaabi, head of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, said in his keynote speech at the symposium: “I am honored to convey to you the greetings of the UAE and its leadership, and I thank you for the generous invitation as we are at the beginning of a new Hijri year.”
He added that this symposium is a pioneering initiative on the right path, as it involves an exchange of experiences between religious institutions in the service of Muslim societies, stressing the need to break the families of religious discourse from the hands of extremists who hijacked religion and wreaked havoc on the earth. He said, “We seek to see in our societies an imam who plays his true role in society and strives for the good of all people, who respects the divine religions and the beliefs of others, does not offend the beliefs of their followers or the role of their worship, preserves the civilized image of mosques, and raises her mission of spreading tolerance.”
He continued: “We used to see how our rulers were receiving and celebrating the highest non-Muslim religious figures, and honoring them as an embodiment of the approach of tolerance, coexistence and human partnership in which the UAE believes,” affirming the UAE’s endeavor to promote world peace and spread the authentic values of Islam, and to convey the true image of Islam and that it is the religion of tolerance. And civilized and humanitarian cooperation.
Al-Kaabi stressed that the UAE has known since its inception at the hands of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, for its initiatives to spread peace in the region.
Sheikh Dr. Abdul Hamid Metwally, head of the Supreme Council of Imams and Islamic Affairs in Brazil, said that the Holy Quran is full of ideas that contribute to building civilizations, as peace does not mean submission and submission, but rather construction, and this is the message of peace and preachers in Latin America. Dr. Ali Al-Khatib, the representative of the Lebanese Dar Al-Fatwa in Brazil, stated that the preacher has a great role in spreading the culture of tolerance and community peace, and the word peace was mentioned in the Holy Quran in many verses.
Dr. Sami Al-Burai, Vice President of the Supreme Council of Imams and Islamic Affairs in Brazil, explained that the responsibility for reform lies in fact on the shoulders of the preachers, because God has honored them with this great responsibility. Ibrahim Al-Alfi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Center of Uruguay, affirmed that the preachers can play a great role, as they influence the gathering of Muslims’ diaspora and unify their ranks by promoting societal peace.
Sheikh Saeed Al-Wahhabi of the Islamic Center in Mexico emphasized that the Islamic call must emerge from reality. In Mexico there is no problem, because tolerance is very clear and the land is fertile.
Muhammad Matar Al-Kaabi explained that the correct way to confront extremism and extremism lies in the development of moderate religious awareness, support for influential religious opinion leaders, as well as strengthening community peace and helping Muslims to play a positive role in building their societies and creating a bright future that highlights the civilization of our religion, noting that platforms must be preserved.
