It is not yet known whether all of this amount has exploded. But what happened was more like a small nuclear bomb. It is true that there are no radioactive materials in it (it cannot be confirmed in Lebanon), but one of the security services talked about the presence of barrels of toxic waste, since the 1990s, near Amber itself! What happened is too much to describe and to be surrounded by. It is the first, and the biggest, crash on the country’s “free fall” trip. An explosion like this (not a nuclear bomb) that Earth has not seen much of it, since the invention of gunpowder. Lebanon here set a record. It is not technical, of course.
It is a political affair, in the non-vulgar sense of the word. An affair that touches people in their lives. Tens of martyrs, and thousands of wounded, and thousands of housing, institutions, shops, and destroyed and damaged buildings, some of which are tens of kilometers away from the center of the explosion. Such a outcome needs war. The destruction of a port with all its necessities necessitates stripping a military campaign. The war took place in Beirut yesterday, but it intensified and took only a few seconds. It was long enough to make the coastal city, and with it all of Lebanon, a disaster country. After the earthquake in 1956, the Lebanese people began to deliberate the term “the year of the earthquake,” as this event had an impact on their awareness. On August 4, 2020, it will be saved as a day for an event whose scale is indescribable. There are countries where there was no perpetration of guilt or of being committed, to the point of subjecting its people to genocide. This happened, practically and not figuratively, on August 4, 2020.
Initial security information revealed that a fire broke out in Amber No. 12. A force from the Beirut Fire Brigade came to work to extinguish it. But the fire intensified within minutes, and the massive explosion occurred. The causes of the fire were not resolved. One of the security services asserts that as a result of the work to “weld” a hole and an iron gate in the ward. Others preferred to wait for the outcome of the investigation. More than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate (used in the manufacture of explosives and agricultural fertilizers) stored indiscriminately, became fuel for the fire and a reason for the explosion that came on a part of the capital and the entire port.
According to “Al-Akhbar Newspaper,” the State Security Agency conducted an investigation, according to which it reported on the existence of risks that may be caused by these materials, knowing that the waste sludge and chemicals were leaking in the port.
In the Supreme Council of Defense meeting yesterday, General Director of State Security, Major General Tony Saliba, presented the report prepared by his directorate early this year. While the Customs Directorate leaked at night a book addressed to the judiciary in 2017, in which it mentioned six previous letters addressed to the Judge of Urgent Matters in Beirut requesting the re-export of ammonium nitrate, or its sale to an explosives manufacturing company.
This shipment of material that committed the crime of the fourth of August against Beirut and all of Lebanon, has been present at the port since 2013, by a Lebanese judicial decision. At that time, a Moldovan ship was coming from Georgia, and on its way to Mozambique, it passed through Lebanese waters, where it was broken. After that, a number of creditors filed legal complaints against the ship’s owners, and the judiciary detained the shipment, which was kept in ward 12.
Aside from technical and legal matters, there are questions that need to be asked, and you need answers to define responsibilities:
Why did the hazardous materials remain in Lebanon?
Why did not you leave after processing the order of the ship?
Who is the decision-maker to keep these articles without any precautionary measures?
Who pays the rental allowance for storing it?
Who benefits from her survival?
Why didn’t the Intelligence Directorate, which has security authority in the port, responsible for everything related to weapons and explosive materials issues, not interfere to prevent storing explosive materials in a sensitive facility such as the capital’s seaport?
Did the Customs Directorate stop, after 2017, from sending books to the judiciary in order to “liberate” the seized shipment?
What is the role of the port management committee, which has been in place for decades, in preserving the integrity of the facility it manages with almost complete independence from everything else in the republic?
Who is this judge who has not been persuaded by security demands that these “very dangerous” items should be “unbound”? According to any law that took its decision? Will the “individual rights” of creditors remain “sacred” in light of the serious risks to national security?
These questions are not intended to target anyone, nor to accuse anyone. But a crime of such gravity is not permitted to pass without the large heads rolling. The “genocide” that the capital was subjected to yesterday was subject to the necessity of changing many behaviors and policies.
The Supreme Council of Defense meeting, which was held in Baabda yesterday, promised to answer these questions. According to the sources of the meeting, it will be possible, starting today, to directly investigate whether the bombing was in error or that there was a deliberate sabotage or explosion.
While it was decided to form an investigation committee that includes the ministers of defense, the interior, justice, and the leaders of the security services, it was confirmed that investigations must be completed within five days, and that responsibility for negligence should be determined from 7 years until now, “in light of the presence of a clear destination to arrest all those involved in the matter without any An exception, and that every employee or person connected to the file be called up and investigated.
With regard to the humanitarian situation, it has been decided that teams from the Ministry of Health will examine the DNA of a large number of unidentified victims and prepare a list of conformity with citizens who ask about members of their families.
It was also decided, through declaring a state of emergency in Beirut for a period of 14 days, renewable, to place hospitals and public and private facilities under the authority of the Lebanese army.
The army, in cooperation with other parties, will begin a comprehensive survey of damages starting from tomorrow, after the formation of a ministerial committee that starts this morning in the Grand Serail in order to study the mechanism of receiving all kinds of aid and restrict it to this committee without any role for any other party.
The Minister of Defense was also mandated to contact representatives of all countries that have indicated their willingness to support, with the concerned ministry making an estimate of the port’s losses and how to initiate the repair process immediately. Until then, it was decided to rehabilitate the port of Tripoli with the necessary measures in an effort to compensate for the exit of Beirut Port from service.
The political exploitation of the crime that took place quickly began. Saudi Arabia sought – through the media and politicians funded by it in Riyadh, Dubai and Beirut – to link the incident to Hezbollah, before US President Donald Trump went out to say that the American military “believes that the Beirut explosion is caused by a type of bomb What”. On the other hand, the US State Department announced that it is awaiting the results of the Lebanese investigation.

Diab: Those responsible for the accident will pay the price
What happened was considered a “major national disaster,” Prime Minister Hassan Diab said. The viewer talks about the scale of the calamity that struck Lebanon, which is all afflicted, considering that “the ordeal is a difficult one that can only be met by national unity.”
The prime minister, who declared national mourning today, added that it is “a catastrophe that we can only overcome with determination and determination to face the serious challenge and its devastating consequences.”
As for the most important thing in the conversation, the assertion that “what happened will not pass without an account, the officials will pay the price, and this is a promise to the martyrs and the wounded. There will be facts to announce this dangerous warehouse, which has been around since 2014, adding that “I will not anticipate the investigations, now is the time to deal with the disaster. But I promise you that this disaster will not pass without responsibility and those responsible for it. ”
He asked the Lebanese to “unite”, and from the “sisterly countries that love Lebanon” to “help us heal our wounds … we are in trouble.”
While many countries expressed their solidarity and willingness to help face the disaster that afflicted the country.
