A banking group intends to finance customers to supply homes in South Africa with solar energy

Investec Limited, the banking group, intends to fund private banking clients in South Africa to supply homes with solar energy, in an effort to help its customer base cut carbon emissions while at the same time avoiding frequent power outages in the country, according to Bloomberg today. This plan, which will be tried as of next September, includes advising clients on installation and price options, and allows them to link the cost to mortgages as a payment option.

The service is one of several initiatives that the group is studying to take advantage of effective tools to reduce carbon, according to Tania Santos, head of sustainability at the banking group, in an interview. “First and foremost, our goal is to recognize that not only are there any risks to climate change but there are also plenty of opportunities for business,” the banking group added.
