The Syrian News Agency (SANA) announced yesterday the death of the Lebanese artist Marwan Mahfouz in the Syrian capital, Damascus, where he arrived to revive his last concerts at the Opera Theater in Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts.

The artist, Mahfouz (80 years), was admitted, before the hospital days in Damascus, for treatment of urgent complications after he felt a sudden shortness of breath and a high temperature.

Antoine Chaaya Mahfouz has been known under his artistic name, Marouan Mahfouz, for more than sixty years, most of which he spent among the Rahban family in Lebanon.

Mahfouz began his artistic career on an amateur program before the Rahbani brothers met and shared with them in the first theatrical work in Baalbek, “The Cupboards of Air” in 1965. Mahfouz participated in the Beiteddine and Cedar Festivals, but his fame spread after a theatrical play with the Lebanese artist Ziyad Rahbani, which He sang in him his most famous songs, including “Ya Saif Aal al-Aaad Tayel” and “Afraid to Be Your Love and Love”.
