The Andalusian club is preparing to meet Italian Roma in Germany next week in one crucial match in the round of 16 of the European League competition (Europa League).
The club reported that the case was discovered after tests conducted on Sunday, and that the player in question, whose name was not revealed, “is not suffering from symptoms, in good health and isolated in his home”.
The Spanish club added that it “temporarily suspended its training and sterilized its facilities.”
Seville conducted two more rounds of tests on the rest of the team and the administrative apparatus as a result of the first case, explaining that “in the first round, all results were negative. The second round that was conducted today, the results will be known on Thursday morning.”
The team prepares to return to the exercises on Thursday, with individual rations if the results of the second round are negative.
And the last stages of the European League will be held with one match instead of going back and forth in Germany, due to the pandemic “Covid-19” that caused the suspension of competitions since last March.
The final will be held in Cologne on August 21. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be hosted by the cities of Cologne, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen.
But before that, the round of 16 must be finished, where all the first matches were held, except for the two Inter matches with Spain’s Getafe and Seville with Roma, which will be played on neutral ground in Germany.
And Real Madrid, the Spanish champions, announced on Tuesday that the 26-year-old Dominican international striker, Mariano Diaz, had been infected with the virus.
Because of the sanitary isolation, Diaz will not be able to travel with Real to face Manchester City in the second leg of the European Champions League final on August 7 (1-2 round in Madrid).
Real Madrid was forced to impose a quarantine on its members in March due to the discovery of a positive situation in the ranks of his basketball team, with whom he shares some of his sports facilities at his training center in Valdivibas in the capital Madrid.
